The Senior Business Operations Manager is responsible for the cross-functional strategic management of resources for the Department of Psychology, Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging (CCBBI), Center for Cognitive Brain Sciences (CCBS), Undergraduate Neuroscience Major, Collaborative on the Science of Polarization and Misinformation (C-SPAM), and Decision Sciences Collaborative (DSC) including but not limited to budget, financial operations, business operations, human capital, facilities, systems, and communication. This role ensures alignment between unit strategy and business resources, impacting both short-term and long-term (multi-year) results for the Department of Psychology, CCBBI, CCBS, Undergraduate Neuroscience Major, C-SPAM, DSC, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Leadership: The Senior Business Operations Manager manages a large, complex university budget for the Department of Psychology, CCBBI, CCBS, Undergraduate Neuroscience Major, C-SPAM, and DSC including general funds, earnings operations, donor funds, and research awards. Manages departmental financial operations including strategic budget planning, financial forecasting, allocation of resources, projections of revenue and expense, purchasing and supply management, financial reporting, and trend analysis. Ensures sound financial management through effective budgeting, forecasting, and regular financial reporting. Serves as a Cost Center Manager, advises faculty, staff, and students on policies and procedures, and ensures reconciliation of departmental ledgers. Implements university and financial policies, approves transactions, and may serve as a liaison for external grants. Ensures compliance with internal control structures including segregation of duties, mandatory approvals, and required reconciliations.
  • Strategic and Operational Planning: Develops, implements, and oversees business planning initiatives to ensure administrative operations function effectively and efficiently. Advises and collaborates with the department chair, center/program directors, and college administration to identify and advance strategic planning initiatives and make data-informed decisions.
  • Organizational Effectiveness: Identifies opportunities for organizational improvement and leads change management initiatives to enhance the service and support functions of the department. Proactively identifies and resolves operational issues.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff supporting functions including fiscal operations, general administration, personnel, academic operations, and communications. Provides leadership and team building to create a high-performing work culture that leverages staff competencies and promotes accountability, goal setting, and mentoring.
  • Human Capital and Workforce Planning: Collaborates with HR on workforce planning, oversees onboarding for new hires, and ensures appropriate staffing levels, including Lecturers and Graduate Associates each semester. Collaborates with HR Business Partner and Consultant on a regular basis on unit talent, employee relations, and other human resources activities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Frequently interacts with faculty leaders, managers, and stakeholders concerning budgets, projects, and operational decisions. Manages relationships within the organization and, at times, with external institutions or community organizations.
  • College Collaboration: On behalf of the college: oversees, monitors, and directs assigned staff across the college. Collaborates with other business operations leaders in the College of Arts and Sciences to develop operational strategy, translate strategic plans into operational plans, and guide their execution. Supports other business operations managers in the college and supports their professional development. Leads planning and execution of college-wide projects and initiatives in collaboration with college leaders. May provide interim coverage, selection process, training & onboarding for any vacancies in department manager positions. Works to build community through shared experiences, training, and professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of 7 years of relevant business operations and management experience. Experience in accounting principles and applications, managing budgets, advising leaders on operations, and financial decision making. Considerable experience using MS Excel. Supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Masters degree in Business Administration or related field desired. 12 years of relevant business operations and management experience desired. Proficiency with Workday. Experience with a university budget model, policies, and regulations desired.

The pay range for this job profile is $120,000-$156,800. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
