Summary

This position is located at the University of Houston, in Houston, TX, and is 100% On-Site. Provides advanced instructional design expertise with a strong emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching, learning, and course development. Partners with faculty to design high-quality, innovative learning experiences that leverage AI tools, generative technologies, and data-informed pedagogy. Leads university-wide initiatives that expand the use of AI-enabled instructional technologies, supports faculty adoption of emerging tools, and supervises staff engaged in instructional innovation.

Job Duties

1. Design, develop, and deliver AI-enhanced training, workshops, and seminars for faculty and staff, including support for responsible and effective integration of AI into instructional practices.
2. Serve as the primary subject matter expert for instructional design with AI, providing consultation on pedagogical models, course redesign, AI-supported assessment, and emerging technologies.
3. Investigate, evaluate, and recommend new AI-driven educational tools and platforms; participate in procurement and implementation decision-making for academic technologies.
4. Troubleshoot technical and operational issues related to AI platforms, learning technologies, and digital learning environments.
5. Train faculty on new academic software and AI-enabled instructional technologies and directs the work of graduate assistants supporting instructional technology and course design.
6. Research and collaborate with faculty to develop innovative teaching experiences, including AI-supported content creation, adaptive learning models, and automation of instructional tasks where appropriate.
7. Represent the University at conferences and events focused on instructional design, learning innovation, and artificial intelligence in higher education.
8. Collaborate with instructional designers across the University of Houston System to advance AI-aligned instructional practices and resources.
9. Provide leadership in system-wide instructional design meetings, contributing expertise on AI integration and learning technology strategy.
10. Coordinate University-wide projects and initiatives that expand the use of AI in teaching, learning, and instructional technology.
11. Perform other job-related duties as required, projects and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications (MQ)

Education: Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
Certification/Licensing: None.

Preferred Qualification: This position requires proficiency with AI skills such as prompt engineering, AI-powered content creation, personalized learning, automated prototyping, and data analysis.
