The Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University has a July 1, 2025 opening for a 2-year Medical Physics Resident.

The Staff Associate II position is a senior-level research position. Qualified candidates should have strong scientific and postdoctoral experience with extensive experience in physics and/or imaging. Qualified candidates shall also be a graduate of CAMPEP-accredited MS or PhD therapeutic medical physics or certificate program. The residency offers research opportunities in medical physics-related topics and clinical training in medical physics. Clinical training will be provided through our CAMPEP-accredited residency program.

The residency program is designed such that the graduate will be eligible to pursue his/her career as a medical physicist at a university medical center or as a clinical physicist in a hospital. The CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics residency and graduate programs are directed by Yading Yuan, Ph.D. DABR, Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology (Physics).

Program Description: The Radiation Oncology residency program at New York Presbyterian Hospital provides clinical training at the Columbia University Medical Center. Clinical instruction is designed to cover the major training requirements for radiation oncology physics as outlined by CAMPEP accreditation requirements and the AAPM. The program's main objective is to prepare the residents for board certification in therapeutic radiological physics and to provide broad-based, in-depth training that will allow the residents to contribute to the quality of medical care received by the radiation oncology patient. Training is conducted under the close supervision of ABR-boarded medical physicists. The program emphasizes all areas of training and experience required by a radiation oncology medical physicist in a state-of-the-art treatment facility.

Minimum Degree Required: M.S. or Ph.D. in Medical Physics or an adjacent field of study.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics graduate or certificate program.
