Grand Valley State University Athletics is anchored in the relentless pursuit of greatness. We are recruiting a staff athletic trainer to deliver high quality comprehensive healthcare to top-performing student-athletes competing at one of the most successful NCAA Division II institutions. This newly created full time (12-month) position will join our already robust healthcare team beginning June 1, 2026.
Our team consists of 10 full-time clinical athletic trainers, a non-clinical athletics healthcare administrator, 5 primary team physicians including a medical director and surgical director, 5 sport performance coaches, a full-time physical therapist, and an administrative assistant. We also work with a third-party administrator (TPA) for insurance claims.
The staff athletic trainer will provide comprehensive care with an emphasis on preventative strategies, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, rehabilitation, return to play progression and interdisciplinary collaboration under the direction of a physician and under the supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Healthcare and Head Athletic Trainer. This individual will work within the guidelines set forth by Michigan Licensure, the GVSU Standards of Professional Practice, the BOC Professional Standard of Practice and the BOC Practice Domains and Tasks.

This position includes a comprehensive benefits package in addition to State of Michigan Athletic Trainer licensure fee, professional organization dues (NATA/GLATA/MATS), BOC annual maintenance fee, staff parking, cell phone, laptop and recreation center membership.
Salary & Benefits
$50,000.00
Comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver effective on date of hire.
Primary Duties
- Provide athletics healthcare to the men's/women's cross country & track and field programs.
- Evaluate, diagnose and treat musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
- Design and implement rehabilitation and return to play progressions.
- Provide therapeutic interventions and utilize therapeutic modalities.
- Recognize the presentation of concerning mental health symptoms and appropriately refer for support.
- Communication and collaboration with sport performance coaches.
- Coordination of care with other allied health care providers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Bachelor's degree.
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Michigan Athletic Trainer License.
- Strong commitment to timely, accurate and complete electronic medical record keeping in compliance with FERPA and healthcare standards.
- Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Motivated and open to sharing ideas for improvement.
- Robust interpersonal skills and the ability to counsel patients and interact professionally.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred
- 1 year of professional clinical athletic training experience in a collegiate environment.
Working Conditions
Normal clinical environment with exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Travel required.
Physical Demands:
