Staff Therapist

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), part of Vaden Health Center at Stanford University, invites applicants for the position of Staff Therapist to provide mental health services for the Stanford student body. CAPS is a university mental health clinic comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals dedicated to the pursuit of clinical excellence and culturally responsive care. This is a full-time recurring position, requiring at least 3 days or more of onsite work.

The successful candidate will have superb clinical skills, a history of working across diverse communities, and the ability to engage young adults through services in individual, group, and outreach settings.

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide a comprehensive range of outpatient mental health services for the Stanford student body.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide a wide range of direct clinical services to students including initial clinical evaluations and brief therapy services, treatment groups, and clinical workshops
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and treatment planning to students with urgent needs; assess need for higher levels of care
  • Provide on-call support and respond to urgent situations; provide consultation to the campus for crisis needs
  • Work with students requiring higher levels of care
  • Manage referrals to higher levels of care and community providers as indicated
  • Provide clinical outreach services to campus communities, offices, and departments
  • Develop educational and wellness programming for students
  • Participate in CAPS, Vaden Health Center, and campus meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned
  • Other duties may also be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in social work or psychology or related field and two years post-degree experience (completed before licensure)
  • Licensure: California Licensure in one or more of the following fields:
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
    • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Clinical expertise in evaluation, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
  • Proven ability to provide culturally responsive care to diverse communities and to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • Knowledge of ethical standards, relevant state and HIPAA laws regulating the privacy and confidentiality of health information, and mandated reporting statutes.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with timely completion of clinical documentation and administrative tasks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong preference will be given to candidates with:

  • 3 or more years of post-licensure work history and previous experience working in university counseling centers
  • Work or lived experience relevant to serving one or more of the following student communities:
    • Indigenous/Native American
    • Middle Eastern/North African

Working Conditions: Job may entail after-hours availability on evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays in response to the needs of the Stanford student body.

The expected pay range for this position is $95,365 - $125,000 annually.
