State Univ Adjunct Unit - Department of Writing, Literature, and Language Community Faculty
Job Description: Metro State University, Minnesota’s public, urban university, and recipient of the 2019 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award, occasionally needs community (adjunct) faculty to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. These positions are temporary and part-time.
Responsibilities: Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach academic writing courses effectively at the undergraduate level. Assigned courses may include the following:
- WRIT 121: Writing I Intensive
- WRIT 131: Writing I
- WRIT 231: Writing II

Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
Salary Range: $1,844.00 per credit taught.
Please note: Filling of this community (adjunct) faculty position is dependent upon budget. Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website. Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition, writing studies, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach college-level writing or first-year composition.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse student population.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience teaching college-level writing in both conventional and online formats.
- Ability to learn to use a learning management system (Brightspace D2L) for course information, assignments, and grades.
- Experience with curriculum development and professional development participation.
- Demonstrated ability to work with multilingual and adult learners in first-year writing or similar academic contexts.
