Mid Michigan College's Strategic Communications department is seeking a new team member to assist with the creation of content using a variety of creative and technical methods. This position will include photography, videography, video editing, social media, and website editing, as well as detail-oriented tasks related to organization and administrative tasks.
This position will require a strong attention to detail, willingness to engage others in conversation, and strong creative skillsets.
The College does not offer any positions that are fully remote or with a set schedule remote work option.
Examples of Duties
- Capture photography and videography assets across the College, including students, staff, events, facilities, etc. during and occasionally outside of regular business hours.
- Use Adobe Creative Cloud to create graphic design assets for various platforms and print mediums/uses.
- Edit, upload, and organize final content pieces to the department's Google Drive organizational structure in a timely manner.
- Organize and maintain the official photo/content asset library.
- Strong understanding of current social media engagement trends and a strong judgement level on how those trends can be translated into content for Mid while maintaining the College's online reputation.
- Create social media content and schedule. This includes sourcing stories, completing interviews, editing photo and video assets, designing graphics, etc.
- Serve as the social media administrator for the College maintaining admin rights, moderator permissions, and providing training.
- Write marketing content to appeal to complex audiences of the community college including but not limited to potential students, current students, faculty, staff, parents, families, influencers, donors, community leaders, and alumni.
- Provide reporting on social media engagement metrics to evaluate and plan future content efforts.
- Assist with the development of a social media calendar and organize content calendar within AirTable.
- Capture stories across the College by completing interviews and then drafting the story for review alongside companion photo and video assets prior to release through a variety of channels.
- Regularly seek opportunities to develop creative marketing content to enhance and support marketing strategies across the College.
- Manage student ambassadors.
- Assist the team in ensuring accessibility requirements are met, especially in regard to digital content.
- Assist with the management of a robust media contact list.
- Assist with the promotion of campus events including social media, signage, tv slides, etc. as assigned.
- Assist with a variety of strategic communications projects as requested.
- Actively communicate and participate professionally in team management meetings and with the supervisor.
- Actively participate within the AirTable Project Management platform.
- Communicate effectively in a professional manner with clients regarding departmental processes, project status, scheduling, and questions.
- Demonstrate good judgment on when to defer questions, complaints, and issues to supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education, Certification, Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree with relevant experience required.
Experience:
- Experience in creating engaging, professional content in a variety of formats must be demonstrated via a portfolio. Content must not be AI generated.
- Three (3) to four (4) years of professional/managerial experience, preferably in a college environment preferred.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Understanding of social media posting requirements, including media formats and sizes and how to produce content that meets those requirements.
- Knowledge of how to use and leverage features of Hootsuite or similar tool.
- Strong photo and video editing and Adobe Creative Cloud skills.
- Strong photography/videography, writing, and communication skills.
- Must be able to work behind the camera and guide others through the process.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work on deadline and be punctual to assigned tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to collaborate, accept feedback, and be flexible in a professional atmosphere.
