Student Assistant, Multiple Vacancies
Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Student Assistant for the department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant will provide support to other lab members relative to a wide range of ongoing studies of neuronal maturation.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Processes fixed spinal cord and brain tissue. Dissects, sections using vibratome and cryostat, immunostaining, imaging.
- Cultures stem cells, differentiating motor neurons, growing motor neurons in long-term culture under different conditions, and assessing maturation by immunostaining, RNA-seq, and functional analysis.
- Assists with cell culture for generation of lenti and AAV viruses.
- Performs data analysis and troubleshoot experiments as necessary.
- Conducts molecular biology experiments, including genotyping, molecular cloning, and plasmid design.
- Assists with literature review and summarization of research related topics.
- Ensures cleanliness within laboratory and assists with maintenance of lab equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at Rutgers or completion of graduate/undergraduate studies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Physical Demands: Ability to work in a lab environment. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift or exert force up to 25lbs
- Work Environment: Lab environment. Moderate Noise.
