Student Development Specialist – SOAR: ASAP
Job Description
This position will support the achievement of the College's vision of serving as a regional leader in education and workforce development, offering transformative programs that drive individual growth and shared prosperity. The Student Development Specialist for SOAR ASAP @ Harford provides comprehensive case-managed academic advising to promote retention and academic success to students within the CUNY ASAP replication program, with a focus on timely graduation. This position serves as a conduit for students to access other academic support services, financial aid, and co-curricular activities to support their success. General responsibilities include but are not limited to, providing case-managed advising students in face-to-face and online environments; using computerized advising and career assessment tools; assisting students with navigating and understanding college; providing students with up-to-date and accurate information; maintaining accurate student records and notes; contributing to the program's assessment and evaluation activities; and presenting at advising and career-related events. Other duties include serving on various committees and collaborating in campus events.
This is a full-time, exempt staff position.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position
Required Education:
Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, human development, higher education or related field
Required Experience:
Minimum of three years of related academic advising and/or career counseling experience
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency using MS Office programs, database software and proficiency with student information management systems
- A solid understanding of the of the unique concerns related to advising that exist within populations such as minoritized, marginalized, and neurodiverse students
- Demonstrated ability to use cross-generational outreach approaches and the ability to listen, question, reflect and analyze student concerns to assist in facilitating student success and goal completion
- Possession of a dynamic, professional demeanor with exceptional organization, written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated history of managing multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Motivated/enthusiastic work style coupled with superior relationship-building skills using a proactive approach and professional demeanor
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents including new and continuing students, faculty, parents, transfer school partners, alumni and community members
