Job description

Student Liaison Officer

18 hours per week (0.5FTE), permanent

Primarily working closely with St Mary’s Online Programme teams, the Student Liaison Officer (SLO) is responsible for delivering enhanced pastoral care, ensuring engagement and retention amongst students from diverse and non-traditional educational backgrounds. This could include mature students, international students, returning to study students, and those who may not have had a positive academic experience previously. The SLO will foster strong relationships with key University stakeholders including, Student Services, Registry, wider university resources and primarily, the online academic and support teams.

This is a key student facing role of which the main purpose is to deliver a positive and supportive student experience for students as they progress through their University journey. One of the key aspects of this role will require the SLO to, when necessary, flag for the relevant Subject Lead, students who they believe should be considered ‘at

risk’ of either premature withdrawal, or academic failure in accordance with the University’s Students at Risk procedure.

The role holder will report to the Head of Online Learning and be expected to work with relevant Subject Leads Online, and other pastoral support staff, to design and implement an approach that ensures that impact analysis is embedded in the work of the student learning support team, such that the impact of the work of the team on student outcomes, retention and completion can be measured in a systematic and consistent manner
