Job Description Summary
As part of the Community Safety Team, provide safety and security-related services at Peralta Community College District.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Escort and assist students, faculty & staff, as needed, to their vehicles and classrooms
- Perform walking patrols of campus grounds, facilities and buildings including parking lots
- Report any suspicious activity or accidents to the Department of Community Safety via radio
- Serve as a safety representative at college
- Must be alert at all times while on duty
- May staff or maintain the Information Booth, Welcome Center, etc., and provide campus information, on occasions
- Attend extracurricular activities, as assigned, to assist with safety and incident reporting
- Assist with emergency evacuations, building sweeps and other activities relating to the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Ability to write incident reports and take notes on suspicious activities and incidents
- May conduct campus tours, under the direction of the college president
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Model professionalism and a high standard of conduct at all times
In addition to the general duties of a Student Safety Aide I, Student Safety Aide II employees will: Mentor and provide guidance to new Student Safety Aide I; Assist with onboarding and training of incoming aides; Monitor and report security and safety concerns to their college supervisor; Support the planning and coordination of campus emergency drills and evacuations; Provide enhanced support at large campus events or during high-traffic times; Provide peer support in conflict de-escalation situations as trained.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Peralta Application for Student Employment
- Brief letter of application (maximum two pages typed) that specifically states why you want to be a Safety Aide
- Work hours -20 hours per week during the semester. You may work up to 40 hours during the Winter Break and Summer Break
- Work schedule- be available to work between 7am-11pm Monday thru Friday
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working as a Student Safety Aid or Enrolled in the Laney ROC or Merrit COSER program
