Position Summary
The Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC) is seeking a collaborative and innovative professional to serve as the Student Services Coordinator. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of fully integrated advisement, college transition and career services team within the Student Support Services Unit. The coordinator will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management within the Unit.
This individual will play a key role in developing processes, partnerships, and systems that ensure a seamless experience for adult learners facing economic and educational barriers—from program entry through graduation and employment. This includes leading the implementation of a coaching model that fosters student empowerment, accountability, and goal achievement through consistent and personalized support. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking professional with the ability to design, implement, and assess initiatives that strengthen student persistence, completion, and career success.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead a new, integrated services team utilizing a coaching model that connects advising, college transition, and career development functions to strengthen student retention, completion, and placement outcomes.
- In collaboration with Admissions, oversee student intake, registration, and onboarding including new student orientation sessions to ensure a smooth transition for incoming students.
- Oversee implementation of the Early Alert system and disciplinary processes, ensuring timely interventions and consistent documentation.
- Develop and sustain partnerships with employers and agencies to support student success and placement opportunities. Oversee student placement processes, including college enrollment and employment opportunities. Ensure students are prepared for career success by overseeing job readiness support.
- Collect, analyze, and report data related to student persistence, engagement, and placement outcomes.
- Serve as a co-lead for the Commencement Ceremony and Recognition Events.

The Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC) is an adult education enterprise, of the State University of New York, University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD), with an annual enrollment of 1,940 students, that provides urban and/or disadvantaged residents in the Western New York area with tuition-free academic programs, workforce development training and certifications and gainful employment opportunities. The mission of BEOC is to produce lifelong learners who are self-directed, empowered, and committed to excellence. Residents of the surrounding Buffalo community are provided a range of services designed to develop the academic and workforce development skills necessary to become self-sufficient. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of supervisory or management experience overseeing staff and operations within student services, academic advisement, career services, or a closely related functional area.
- Strong data management and reporting skills; experience using student record systems.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments to improve student outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience in using Microsoft Office Suite. Comfortable learning and using new and emerging technology.
- Must be available to work weekends and evenings on occasion.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, or related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory or management experience overseeing staff and operations within student services, academic advisement, career services, or a closely related functional area.
- Experience developing and implementing student persistence, completion and placement strategies.
- Experience working with academically underprepared or economically disadvantaged adult learners.
- Experience in partnership development with employers and community organizations.
- Experience with grant coordination or external funding initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams.
Salary Range
$67,000 - $70,000
