Job Description
This position provides comprehensive Student Success Advising services; assists students with academic planning, exploring a career, choosing a major, resolving academic difficulties, and addressing personal challenges; assists with financial planning; and provides information about the Colleges available support services and resources such as Financial Aid, Bursar, transfers, and how to complete special applications for selection programs.
Reports To: Director of Student Success Advising. What position(s) reports to this position? None.
Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelors Degree. Minimum (1) year full-time work experience in academic advising, coaching, or counseling.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge: Student Information Systems; Microsoft Office Suite of programs (WORD, Excel, etc.) or similar software; Customer service principles; Office practices; College policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; Financial assistance programs; and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and related laws, rules and regulations.
Skills: Solving problems; Organizing and planning; Communicating, both verbally and in writing; Dealing with human relations issues; Thinking critically; In using a variety of technical tools; Using office equipment; and Accurately using keyboards and job-related software including work processing and spreadsheet software.
Abilities: Complete tasks with attention to accuracy and detail; Use tact and diplomacy; Manage multiple priorities; Analyze and resolve issues including student data issues; Be accountable for all work and independently set priorities; and Work with a diverse group of people.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position. This position requires the person to frequently operate a computer, other office machinery, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level. This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 20 pounds to lift materials or equipment. This position requires the person to judge, observe, and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations. Work is normally performed in an indoor office setting but may occasionally be performed in an outdoor setting. Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Work is performed by means of a flexible schedule including evening hours.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree with completed coursework in student development theory. Minimum (1) year full-time work experience in academic advising, coaching, or counseling at a community college.
Required Training: Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution.
Work Hours: 40 hours per week when office is open, some weekends and additional evenings required. General hours of operation: Monday–Thursday 8:00am – 6:00pm; Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm; Extended hours during heavy enrollment periods. Summer Hours June and July: Monday through Thursday; 7:30am – 6:00pm.
