The Student Success Advocate oversees programs and services dedicated to ensuring students have the support they need to achieve academic excellence from matriculation to graduation. The Student Success Advocate will plan and implement initiatives to support the academic development of students. Reporting to the Director of Southeast American Indian Studies, the position will partner with departments across campus to ensure the academic needs of students are met

• Utilize national and campus student data to develop, implement, and assess services relevant to current educational initiatives and research
• Develop and implement programs, services and initiatives that strengthen student education, using relevant student development theories and practices.
• Lead efforts to design, coordinate, manage, execute, and assess large-scale campus programs such as the AIHC Welcome Back Social, Indigenous Peoples Day, American Indian Heritage Month, Study Breaks, and the BraveNation Powwow & Gathering.
• Advocate for students’ holistic needs and access to appropriate services and resources
• Develop programs that provide opportunities to learn about different Indigenous cultures
• Work collaboratively with Undergraduate Admissions to recruit students
• Create innovative events and programs based on the needs and feedback of students (i.e.: mental health, financial literacy, life skills, leadership skills, etc.)
• Create a safe and supportive space for UNCP’s student community
• Perform other related duties and participate in committees and special projects as assigned

The position is grant-funded and time-limited through September 30, 2026. Continuation after this date is contingent upon funding.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree strongly preferred in Higher Education or related field. Bachelor’s degree required. Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, college access, and major trends and issues faced by students in higher education.
At least two years of experience working directly with students (e.g. community organizations, educational settings, etc.).
Direct experience developing and implementing programs that support students.
Computer literacy knowledge and ability to utilize office equipment and computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, and social media)
Expertise in delivering program and education services to student populations
Ability to acknowledge, affirm and advocate for students
Demonstrated experience with academic advising
Ability to navigate university systems to pull, interpret, and analyze data and adapt programming accordingly
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, public relations, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with Alumni, students, parents, and stakeholders
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
