About the area
The Directorate of Student Life, within UWA’s Education Portfolio and overseen by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), plays a central role in delivering a world-class student experience. It encompasses four core functions: Student Administration, Student Offices, Student Equity and Success, and Student Wellbeing & Engagement. These teams support students from pre-enrolment through to graduation, providing services in enrolment, course planning, transition, and academic progression, as well as initiatives that promote success, wellbeing, and engagement. Student Life works closely with the Student Guild, affiliated residential colleges, and the broader UWA Education portfolio.
The Student Equity and Success teams focus on ensuring access, support, and enrichment for all students, fostering an inclusive student experience through academic and co-curricular programs. They coordinate the First Year Experience and oversee the Student Access and Participation Framework, which promotes local ownership and accountability in empowering students to aspire to, achieve, and thrive at university. Their initiatives help remove barriers and enhance student success, particularly for equity cohorts and those entering via alternative pathways.
The Student Success team leads the Academic Skills Centre and delivers programs that build students’ study, writing, communication, English, STEM, and research skills. Through workshops, drop-ins, online sessions, and interactive resources, they support students at key transition points, such as first-year students and those identified as at risk. Their work fosters learning communities and provides tailored support for diverse student backgrounds, ensuring all students have the tools to succeed at UWA.
