SUMMARY
Montclair State University is seeking a Student Success Librarian for a 12-month, tenure-track position. This position was created to support the University’s student success strategic priority and will collaborate with key campus partners.
Reporting to the Head for Research and Reference Services, the Student Success Librarian is responsible for supporting the library’s efforts to promote academic success, retention, and wellness for Montclair’s undergraduate students. They will help create a more inclusive university where students thrive as they navigate their academic paths. This position will help students succeed in the classroom and beyond by enhancing and promoting library services, resources, and spaces. Working in a team environment, the Student Success Librarian will develop teaching materials and outreach strategies to engage and support first-generation, first year, transfer, and adult students. The Student Success Librarian will teach, and participate in research and reference services, liaison, and collection development work.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide instructional services, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning sessions and other innovative approaches, including the development of asynchronous learning materials, to develop information literacy, research, and critical thinking skills. Design and develop a 1-credit information literacy course that is mandatory for all first-year students.
- Serve as liaison and actively develop relationships with faculty, students, and staff within the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Partner with faculty and instructors to help students master the information literacy competencies needed for academic work and research, as well to be successful life-long learners.
- Collaborate with faculty and other campus partners to integrate course reserves, library resources, and open educational resources (OER) into courses; and integrate active and inclusive learning strategies into learner experiences.
- Work collaboratively to develop and provide creative and dynamic in-person and virtual student success-focused workshops, presentations, orientations, outreach, and engagement activities that are scalable and showcase library resources and services.
- Increase library collaboration with campus partners (e.g., departments, committees, and student groups) to create and support initiatives that foster student success.
- Assess library outreach efforts and strive for continuous improvement in support of student success. Increase the library’s understanding of student needs.
- Increase student awareness of library services, resources, and spaces; identify barriers to student use of library collections, services, and spaces, and work collaboratively to address them.
- Participates in national, regional, and/or local associations and professional groups as appropriate, contributes to the scholarship of the profession, and shares new information and knowledge with colleagues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

RESEARCH AND REFERENCE SERVICES
Research and Reference Services support the information and research needs of the university through reference services, one-on-one consultations, workshops, and teaching. In addition to liaising with academic departments and programs, librarians are directly involved with SEEDs, Montclair State University’s common curriculum, where critical information literacy is a core value. Librarians work closely with the Bloomfield College Library to make the University Libraries hubs for student success, intellectual exploration, research, and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school.
- A minimum of two years of professional academic or research library experience relevant to this position.
- Competency with, or strong potential for, forming campus partnerships and/or implementing student engagement strategies to advance student success
- Demonstrated understanding of issues faced by the many and varied student populations that the University serves.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and the University's mission.
- History of, or strong potential for, scholarly, creative, or professional work appropriate to this tenure track position
- Ability to communicate effectively and constructively
PREFERRED:
- Second Master’s degree in an academic discipline.
- Experience providing reference services and liaison services in an academic library.
- Experience with developing library programming.
- Experience teaching and assessing undergraduate information literacy skills, with a well-developed pedagogy that includes strategies such as active learning.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the ACRL Framework, best pedagogical practices for student success, and current information literacy teaching principles and practices.
- Experience creating online learning objects/materials and teaching online.
- Competency with, or strong potential for, instructional design or curriculum design
- Proficiency in Spanish.
- A record of professional and scholarly activity.
- Potential to meet university promotion and tenure requirements for librarians.

Salary Range
$89,239.24-$119,785.59 Annually
