Responsibilities
The Studio Equipment Manager is responsible for coordinating installation and maintenance of all equipment in the Department of Art at the College of Fine Arts. The successful candidate will perform routine maintenance activities on specialized equipment in Sculpture and 3D areas including full metal and wood shops, and supervise lab technicians across the department.
- Supervises, instructs, and assists all departmental OPS area lab technicians in Ceramics Lab, FAB Lab, Photo Lab, Print Lab, and ATL in addition to MFA Studio and BFA Studio spaces in Carnaghi Arts Building, and those GAs assigned to Sculpture.
- Maintains internal inventory of equipment and verifies functionality and integrity of contents in Sculpture and 3D facilities.
- Serves as Department of Art Inventory Taker and assists in completion of annual Property Inventory.
- Trains and educates faculty, staff, lab technicians, and GAs in the correct and safe operation of Sculpture equipment, assisting with equipment use until the user is independently proficient.
- Assists Faculty with demos on specialized equipment (i.e. BOSS Laser, Shaper Origin Routers, Vacuum Former, Water Jet, and Makermade CNC). Inspects and produces regular reports on the condition of Art spaces, furnishings, utilities, and physical operations.
- Attend regular departmental staff meetings.
- Advise department on new equipment purchases including all safety and ventilation specs during consideration and oversee/implement installation after purchase.
- Coordinates ordering, delivery, and installation of new equipment amongst the department, vendors, and central offices as needed.
- Initiates requests and services to remove equipment or other surplus property.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience. (Note: post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate.)
A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in safely maintaining and operating the machinery, tools, equipment, and materials relevant to a high-use, high-performance, detail oriented environment in which accuracy and timeliness is critical.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to recognize safety hazards and implement the necessary precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
