The Digital Learning & Media Center (DLMC) and Creative Technologies Group within ITS support students and faculty working with digital media, fabrication tools, and emerging technologies. These programs provide access to equipment, expertise, and collaborative spaces that enable creative experimentation and technology-enhanced learning across the university.

Assistants contribute to this work by helping install, maintain, and test equipment, supporting creative and research projects, and developing resources that expand the ITS's ability to support the campus community. Summer assistants play an important role in building capacity for the coming academic year through testing new technologies, improving documentation and training resources, and helping refine workflows for shared tools and services.

Assistants work as part of a collaborative team supporting activities that include digital media production, fabrication and prototyping, equipment lending, and exploration of emerging technologies such as AI. Through these projects, assistants develop practical experience with creative technologies while contributing to initiatives that support teaching, research, and creative work across campus.

Accountabilities

Assistants contribute to a range of projects that support the Digital Learning & Media Center and Creative Technologies endeavors.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Testing newly installed software and newly acquired hardware to support ITS services and infrastructure
  • Inspecting, assessing, inventorying, and performing basic maintenance or repairs on shared equipment
  • Assisting with documentation, tutorials, and training resources related to tools and services
  • Supporting the maintenance and organization of equipment used for digital media production and fabrication workflows
  • Capturing media such as b-roll, interviews, and documentation footage for DLMC initiatives
  • Supporting student and faculty projects involving digital media, fabrication tools, and emerging technologies
  • Contributing to collaborative design, prototyping, and iteration of new tools, resources, or workflows

Assistants are expected to work collaboratively with team members, share knowledge gained through projects, and contribute to a culture of experimentation and peer learning.

These activities support the broader mission of ITS to foster creative exploration and technology-enabled learning across the university.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate many of the following qualities:

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or familiarity with some of the following tools is strongly encouraged:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud or similar creative software
  • 3D modeling and slicing software (Fusion360, Cura, Orca, TinkerCAD)
  • AI-based creative tools
  • Camera, audio, and video equipment
  • 3D printers and fabrication tools
  • Equipment lending platforms (e.g., Connect2)
  • WordPress or Google Sites
  • Google Workspace tools

Education

Highschool diploma or equivalent.
