Accountabilities

Producer: The Ho Tung Visualization Laboratory & Planetarium seeks a creative and motivated student producer to assist in the development of digital content supporting a wide range of curricula, including Colgate courses and research. The student producer will collaborate with Vis Lab staff to create immersive visualizations, animations, and interactive modules for use in the planetarium and related educational initiatives.

The position includes training in a variety of industry-standard software tools used in content creation, including Blender, Digistar programming, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Unreal Engine, and other visualization platforms. Prior experience with one or more of these programs is recommended but not required.

The Producer will work both independently and as part of a collaborative production team. Specialized techniques and workflows unique to fulldome and immersive content creation will be taught and supervised by Vis Lab staff.

Presenter: The Ho Tung Visualization Laboratory & Planetarium is seeking an enthusiastic, outgoing student to present live sky shows in our digital fulldome planetarium. These interactive presentations of the night sky are designed by Vis Lab staff and accompany our full dome shows, engaging audiences of all ages.

The presenter will guide audiences through live explorations of the night sky, facilitating questions and creating an engaging, welcoming environment. While prior knowledge of astronomy or the night sky is recommended, it is not required.

In addition to presenting, the student will assist in the production of smaller visualization modules used for K-12 science outreach programs and Colgate courses. This includes learning to program and operate the Digistar planetarium system.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

Professional Experience/ Qualifications - Producer

  • Strong interest in digital media, animation, visualization, or immersive technology
  • Ability to work independently and manage creative projects
  • Willingness to learn new software and technical production skills
  • Prior experience with Blender, Adobe Creative Suite, Unreal Engine, or related tools preferred

Professional Experience/ Qualifications - Presenter

  • General knowledge of computer & current technology
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to speak in front both large and small audiences of all ages
  • General knowledge of Astronomy
  • Flexible work schedule and able to work nights and weekends
  • Experience working with general public or school students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Self paced
  • Knowledge of production workflow
  • working knowledge of computer software
  • General knowledge of Astronomy/Earth Science or related field
