Position Summary/Description

The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs position provides leadership and direction in the management of the Biology Department's undergraduate laboratories. The department seeks a creative problem solver who will be responsible for the growing/changing undergraduate laboratory program on a day-to-day and semester-to-semester basis. The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs should have experience working with and mentoring people from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles.

The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs ensures comprehensive preparation for successful laboratory curriculum and classes such as preparing reagents and labs for experiments; implementing strategies for maintaining excellent safety standards, and assuring proper building services.

The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs also supervises, trains, develops and advises teaching assistants and undergraduate lab assistants. This position is responsible for laboratory courses as well as developing and implementing the required training program for Teaching Assistants to successfully lead undergraduate laboratory courses. This position requires supervision of afternoon and potentially evening laboratory classes.

Education and Experience

A demonstrated ability to effectively relate to faculty members and technical staff; and excellence in organizational, time management, communication, and decision-making skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of experience in biology lab management.

Essential Skills

M.S. degree or higher in Biology or a related discipline
