Job Description

The Support Professional & Academic Accommodations Testing Proctor provides support to the Testing Center operations. The Testing Center works collaboratively with the Disability Support Services department and provides testing accommodations for qualified GRCC students. This position resides in the Testing Center and is responsible for various aspects of processing and proctoring tests. The day to day responsibilities of this position include checking in students, answering phones, scheduling appointments, supporting student employees, overseeing exam administration and related testing services, ensuring confidentiality, accessibility and test security, and generally ensuring that testing accommodations approved by DSS are implemented as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act. This position must interact effectively in a fast paced, high traffic environment that works with students, faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide a friendly, supportive and welcoming student experience and environment while demonstrating the highest level of confidentiality and appropriate discretion.
  • Schedule, administer and monitor testing sessions that include accommodations approved by the DSS department.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality with student accounts and information.
  • Understand the nature of the ADA and the importance of timely accommodations.
  • Adhere to NCTA and GRCC testing guidelines while meeting ADA accommodation requirements.
  • Verify student eligibility for services in collaboration with DSS.
  • Assist other offices on campus with guidelines to ensure uniformity of testing services.
  • Manage and resolve routine problems and conflicts for test takers, staff, faculty, and student employees including basic technical trouble-shooting assistance. When needed, contacting the appropriate testing partner or GRCC Information Technologies.
  • Maintain effective communication among students, faculty and staff regarding testing procedures.
  • Answer telephone, check voicemail and email daily, taking action as needed.
  • Align work with Testing Center and work in collaboration with Testing Center staff.
  • Seek ongoing professional development of test center security and management.
  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education Credentials
  • Associates degree or comparable combination of relevant education and experience.
Work Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of testing or other customer service experience required, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Some experience related to disability, accessibility and access related technology preferred
  • Finalists must possess excellent proofreading skills and have aptitude for detailed work. A skills assessment may be required.
Skills
  • Basic knowledge of ADA and related laws and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population which includes individuals with disabilities
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) Gmail Suite required. Recommended PeopleSoft, Image Now and other database systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and master new software and software systems
  • Ability to efficiently conduct a test administration from beginning to end
  • General knowledge of the principles of testing including test security, confidentiality and appropriate discretion
  • Proven ability to do detailed work independently with highest level of accuracy
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks; self starter
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving abilities and be able to exert initiative, critical thinking and resourcefulness
  • Ability to gain strong working knowledge of GRCC catalog, policies, and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, analytical and complaint resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project a professional image including punctuality and good attendance record
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift and move twenty five (25) pounds
  • Must be able to work at a computer station
  • Must be able to be mobile in the testing center and in other testing locations across campus
  • Must be able to visually observe testers behaviors and actions via video and screen sharing to ensure test integrity
Mental Demands
  • Be creative and innovative including problem-solving abilities
  • Work under pressure while possessing mature judgment and flexibility in regards to interruptions
  • Patience and understanding in regards to working with a diverse population of students
  • Use good judgment in handling sensitive or difficult situations in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Use high moral and ethical standards to ensure testing integrity is maintained
  • Ability to prioritize and organize
