The Role

University of the Arts London (UAL) is looking for a Support Technician to join our 3D Make team on a fixed term contract to provide parental leave cover. Based at our King's Cross site, this role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of our workshops, supporting students as they develop their practice and ensuring our facilities remain safe and well-maintained. The 3D Make area brings together two sets of wood and metal workshops, a supported open workbench space, a general workshop, 3D Make Digital, and the Digital Fabrication Bureau. Collectively these spaces support a wide range of courses and practices across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will play an important part in the smooth running of the workshops, contributing to the day-to-day operation of resources, setting up and preparing spaces, and ensuring that all activities are carried out in line with health and safety standards. Working under the guidance of the Technical Coordinator and Specialist Technicians, you will also help deliver technical support for taught programmes and open access sessions. About You

We are looking for someone who brings practical making experience and craft skills, with knowledge of workshop-based activities such as wood, metal and plastics, and ideally some familiarity with digital fabrication. Just as important is your ability to be flexible, communicative and collaborative, working with a diverse range of students, staff and courses. An understanding of health and safety in an educational setting is also essential, along with a willingness to develop and expand your technical expertise as part of a supportive team.
