Position Summary
La Salle University’s Department of Natural Sciences seeks a non-tenure track faculty member to teach microbiology courses in the Biology Program. The faculty member will teach both intro and upper-level microbiology lecture and laboratory courses that serve biology majors and nursing and health-sciences majors. In particular, the faculty member will manage the clinical microbiology course for nursing and health-sciences majors faculty member may also have the opportunity to teach other courses in the Biology curriculum.
Essential Duties
- Teach assigned clinical microbiology and microbiology lecture and laboratory courses that serve the Biology Program and nursing and health-science students.
- Coordinate the clinical microbiology course that serves nursing and health-science majors.
- Prepare course materials consistent with departmental and course learning objectives.
- Provide timely grading and feedback to students.
- Provide guidance and support to students in courses, including holding required office hours.
- Teach related courses as needed by the department.
- Participate in academic advising for students in the Biology Program.
- Organize and set up microbiology laboratory coordinating with the laboratory technician as needed.
- Collaborate with other instructors teaching microbiology lab sections and advise on the microbiology curriculum.
- Maintain, promote, and practice laboratory safety in a laboratory class environment.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Experience teaching microbiology lecture and laboratory courses, particularly at the college-level.
- Ability to work and collaborate with faculty and staff on scientific and teaching endeavors.
- Knowledge of innovative and effective teaching practices and a commitment to high-quality teaching and science education.
Required Qualifications
- A master’s degree in microbiology or a related field.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in microbiology or a related field is preferred.
- Experience teaching microbiology lecture and laboratory courses, particularly at the college-level.
- Ability to work and collaborate with faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of innovative and effective teaching practices and a commitment to high-quality teaching and science education.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- The job requires the ability to teach both a lecture and lab section biology courses. The job requires movement around the classroom or laboratory and the use of common biology laboratory equipment.
- It may be necessary for the position to teach an evening class of A&P. No other unusual work hours are required.
