JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for assigned activities in the research laboratory under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator or the designee of P.I. Duties include performing experiments in the area of cell biology and molecular biology relating to epithelial cells and fibroblasts and their role in the lung injury and lung remodeling. The research associate should have experience in the handling of small animals. Documentation of experimental data in timely fashion, and inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies are required. Other related duties as assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
· Investigation of the molecular and cellular players that contribute to acute and chronic lung diseases and lung remodeling.
· Work with small animals in the preparation and analysis of lung epithelial cells and lung fibroblasts from lungs by flow cytometry and functional assays.
· General laboratory support duties—Maintenance of cell cultures, Isolation of RNA, polymerase chain reactions, preparation of DNAs including plasmid DNA, cell transfections, enzyme and protein binding assays, etc.
· Order and maintain supplies, equipment maintenance, and general upkeep of the laboratory.
· Conduct or assist in experiments related to ongoing research projects under PI’s supervision.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Senior Research Associate position requires a PhD degree.
Senior Research Associate position is immediately available to investigate the molecular and cellular players that contribute to lung remodeling and test targeted recombinant protein and monoclonal antibody interventions. Applicants must have a strong background in cellular and molecular biology, mouse model of experimentally induced lung injury, lung fibrosis or toxicology and isolation and analysis of epithelial cells, fibroblasts and macrophages from the lungs, immunocytochemistry and histochemistry, immunofluorescence microscopic techniques, flow cytometry and functional assays. Preference will be given to candidates with PhD degree with 1-2 years of research experience in studying lung injury and remodeling including pulmonary fibrosis, COPD or viral infections. Candidates with expertise in molecular (protein-protein) interactions, lung diseases, matrix biology, toxicology/drug development, macrophages biology or glycobiology are also encouraged to apply.
