Endowed Assistant Professor in Systems or Synthetic Biology at the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, Stony Brook University
We invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, at the Laufer Center (LC) for Physical and Quantitative Biology at Stony Brook University. We seek creative individuals who can develop a cutting-edge research program and lead collaborative research initiatives on the development and combined use of novel computational and/or experimental technology, at the interface of life sciences, physical sciences, computer science, and/or engineering, to address current challenges in systems biology, synthetic biology, and/or evolutionary biology, and to facilitate the translation of basic research into biological, biomedical, and/or pharmacological applications.
The position focuses primarily on research, with limited teaching, and is supported by a Laufer Endowed Professorship that provides annual research support. The successful candidate will have considerable freedom to choose his or her departmental affiliation that best fits his/her research areas.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A PhD (or foreign equivalent) in life sciences or a related field, physical sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics. Strong record of research productivity. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership and/or research accomplishments in at least one of the areas listed in at least two of the following three categories. Category 1: biochemistry; molecular biophysics; drug and/or antibody design or development, structural biology. Category 2: molecular-to-cellular systems biology; cell regulation and adaptation/evolution; multiscale dynamics using data from latest technology, including single molecule experiments and live cell imaging; omics-scale data analysis. Category 3: synthetic biology experiments motivated by theory or principles; neurobiology; bioengineering, mathematical and/or physical biology. We welcome candidates who have an interest in interdisciplinary mentoring and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidates with have demonstrated leadership and/or research accomplishments in at least two areas within at least two categories listed above; those who have demonstrated achievements in systems biology and/or synthetic biology with both experimental and computational research experience and interests. We especially seek candidates who have a documented track record (such as degrees from and/or affiliations with departments and programs in different categories listed above) in interdisciplinary crosstalk, mentoring, teaching and other activities to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In addition, applicants should arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Electronic submission through Interfolio is required.
