Description

Linfield University Student Teaching Supervisor Position

Focus: Clinical Supervision of Elementary Teacher Candidates

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Linfield University Supervisor. Supervisors play a critical role in the development of excellent teacher candidates. We seek a diverse pool of university supervisors who agree to serve for one academic semester in a part-time position. University Supervisors will observe undergraduate student teachers who are pursuing their initial licenses. University Supervisor positions are filled on an as needed basis dependent upon the teacher candidates enrolled in student teaching and the specific endorsements they seek. The time commitment is approximately 25-35 hours of work per student per term. University supervisors typically work with 1-4 students per term depending on availability, interest, and the number of students seeking particular endorsements.

Linfield University enrolls a diverse student body; 60% of students are New Majority students composed of students of color, first-generation, transfer, and Pell-eligible students. Additionally, Linfield University is an emerging Hispanic serving institution and actively engaged in promoting, advancing, and confirming our commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Linfield Education Department believes that a diverse and vibrant Linfield contributes to academic excellence and critical thinking. We believe that systemic barriers disproportionately hurt the most marginalized people in society – including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women and people who identify as LGBTQ. We believe that these communities must be centered in order to break down those barriers in education. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities. All candidates are encouraged to address how their professional and lived experience, scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and/or service will build on our diversity and inclusion efforts.

Linfield Education Department Mission:

Linfield’s teacher education program prepares students within the context of a strong liberal arts tradition that promotes a culture of engagement and excellence; integrated teaching and learning; global and multicultural understanding; and experiential learning through ongoing field experiences. Linfield’s education faculty prepare teacher education candidates who understand and apply multiple theories of learning and content knowledge; develop dispositions and strategies for advocating for all learners; and reflect and act on their own behaviors and on the teaching and learning process. Candidates are prepared for service in educational settings within Oregon, across the nation, and throughout the world.
