POSITION TITLE: Research Technician - Genomics Core

 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Record data providing basic analyses and interpretations
  • Perform a limited number of non-repetitive procedures
  • Working directly and in conjunction with Scripps Research faculty and outside users, technicians assist in the design, execution and analysis of projects within the Core.
  • Support team members in lab operations.
  • Perform experiments as assigned.
  • Other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology) and up to one (1) year of related experience. 
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of related laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 1 year of related laboratory experience, including experimental design and implementation. Volunteer and/or unpaid internships of related laboratory experience accepted.
  • Basic laboratory bench experience including pipetting, concentration calculations/conversions, etc.
  • Proficient communication skills – both written and verbal communication of ideas with team members.
  • The following are not required, but will be considered favorably: Experience in any of the following techniques: NGS library preparation and sequencer operation, PCR, work in BSL2 environment, nucleic acid analysis/quantitation. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
