Health Practitioner Research Development Program 2024 Centre for Rural Health

The Centre for Rural Health at the University of Tasmania is inviting expressions of interest for rural health professionals to engage in opportunities to build their research skills and experience.

Relative to metropolitan settings, there is a paucity of health practitioner and service research in rural Australia. This disparity has contributed to gaps in the scientific evidence base specific to rural settings necessary to drive evidence-based system reform to improve rural health and workforce disparities. In response, the Centre for Rural Health is pleased to offer successful applicants opportunities to join existing research teams to participate in project-based opportunities with a view to building research skills and experience.

Applicants must be based (living or working) in rural Tasmania (MMM 3-7), hold a university degree in a health care field and have experience in rural health. Applicants are required to suggest a research project topic that interests them or is of concern to their rural community. We will use the identified topic to connect the successful applicants to similar research that is underway, or to existing research teams using similar methodologies or approaches.

Each successful applicant will be funded to engage in up to 140 hours as a level 1 research assistant to complete research activities with the identified research team. The exact scope of the work will depend on the project the participant is connected with, and will involve various tasks according to the study requirements.

We welcome applications from across Tasmania, with the intent to locate the successful applicants at the nearest UTAS facility with a relevant active research project.
