As a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC), you'll play a vital role in ensuring that climate science actively contributes to Alaskan’s efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change. This two-year postdoctoral position will investigate how the AK CASC supports climate change adaptation in Alaska. This research may involve working closely with AK CASC’s partners and affiliates to conduct interviews, surveys, or use other creative and innovative methods to study communication, actionable science, how scientific evidence is used in decision making, and evaluate AK CASC initiatives and activities.

To thrive in this position, applicants must have a PhD and a strong academic background in social sciences, complemented by proficiency in research methodologies, analytical skills, and transdisciplinary collaboration. We seek enthusiastic applicants that can demonstrate creativity, initiative, and strong oral and written communication skills. The successful applicant is enthusiastic about making meaningful contributions and is a motivated problem solver who enjoys working in a collaborative environment.

The post-doctoral fellow will have some latitude to develop research questions independently based on their expertise, but potential projects include the investigation of:

  • Barriers and opportunities of an organizational approach to science communication
  • The roles of boundary spanners in facilitating actionable science
  • Assessment of research-practice partnerships or co-production of knowledge
  • Relationships between team composition, budgetary inputs, and actionable science outcomes

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in a relevant discipline (anthropology, sociology, human geography, psychology, political science, science and technology studies, public policy and planning, environmental studies, evaluation science, etc.). Demonstrated experience with social science research methods (e.g., interview, survey, comparative case studies, participant action, community-based research). Experience conducting research related to climate change impacts and/or adaptation is preferred.
