Position Summary
Eastern New Mexico University’s program in Criminal Justice seeks applications for a full-time position, open until filled. Appointment will be at a rank commensurate with academic training and experience.
Desired areas of concentration may include but are not limited to criminal and procedural law, and social aspects of criminal justice (e.g. ethics;) to supplement strong program emphases in Law Enforcement and Criminology in a major with close ties to the Sociology program.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach 4 undergraduate course sections (12-hour load) each semester in face-to-face, lecture capture, and/or web platforms. Course load includes lower- and upper-division coursework in consultation with departmental colleagues.
- Development of new curriculum and assessment to support program learning outcomes.
- Provide advising for undergraduate students (residential and distance students)
- Serve on departmental and university committees
- Develop appropriate scholarly activity commensurate with rank and experience.
- Contract is for Nine (9) months. Additional summer contracts may be available, based on department need.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related discipline (ABD Considered) for tenure-track, Assistant Professor, position teaching undergraduate courses at all levels
- JD, MA or MS with substantial professional practitioner experience and/or university-level teaching experience noted above may be considered for renewable three-year Instructor position. Higher-education teaching experience and/or related career experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to teach introductory and advanced coursework in Criminal Justice and related areas in Sociology as determined by program, Ability to develop courses in areas such as Criminal Law, , Comparative Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homicide, Criminal Investigations, Corrections, and Introduction to Criminal Justice.
- Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to excellence in teaching students of diverse backgrounds.
Working Conditions
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
