Position Summary:Advance evidence informed decision making at UD in a role dedicated to managing, modeling, and governing data used for analytics, institutional research, and decision support! In close collaboration with other members of the Decision Support Office, UDIT, and data stakeholders across campus, the Associate Director of Data Governance and Management develops and maintains consistent definitions of analytic concepts, identifies and builds data models to support analysis related to those concepts, and creates structures and practices that ensure data quality and security. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Decision Support, the Data and Data Governance Manager leads the Decision Support office’s approach to managing, modeling, and governing data. In close collaboration with other members of the Decision Support Office, UDIT, and data stakeholders across campus, the Associate Director develops and maintains consistent definitions of analytic concepts, identifies and builds data models to support analysis related to those concepts, and creates structures and practices that ensure data quality and security.

1. Work with stakeholders to identify data needs with a focus on strategic initiatives and common shared activities

2. Develop and continuously improve data models to support analysis and reporting with a focus on security, reliability, validity, efficiency, and accessibility

3. Create, coordinate, and enact processes that support data quality

4. Enact approaches to inventory, catalog, and define data that yield clear and consistent use of concepts in analysis of and communication about data

5. Support the development and application of data governance practices within Decision 6. Support and identify and pursue tactics through which Decision Support can contribute to institutional data governance strategies

6. Collaborate closely with other decision support staff and data modelers in UDIT with a focus on systematically cleaning and transforming data for use in analytic projects and dashboards

7. Contribute to the management and/or completion of analytic projects and dashboards

Minimum Qualifications:Associates degree or higher

Three years of experience in data management, data governance, data modeling, institutional research, business analysis, analytics, or closely related functions

Experience analyzing complex business processes including data flow, sourcing and business requirements

Experience with data modeling, transformation, or data based management

Evidence of strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities

Programming experience in SQL

High integrity, relationship building skills, and effective interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant field

Strong command of SQL, Python, R, and/or similar languages

Expertise in data modeling, transformation, or data based management, particularly for large and complex sources

Experience applying business analysis practices to the formulation, management, and execution of projects

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Experience developing or enacting data governance approaches or practices

Experience in data analysis, data science or similar

Experience with Tableau or other business intelligence software

Experience with Banner, Education Cloud, or other enterprise data systems in use at University of Dayton

Knowledge of higher education theory and best practice related to academics; enrollment management; student success, wellbeing, and engagement; finance; administration; human resources; information technology; and/or diversity, equity, and inclusion

Experience in a higher education setting

Demonstrated experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and engaging in equity-minded practice
