Why your role matters
Join UNSW as the Manager of Onboarding & Transition and play a pivotal role in enhancing student engagement for our international students. In this dynamic position, you will collaborate closely with the Lead of Student Engagement to create and implement innovative programs and initiatives.
Your efforts will focus on fostering a sense of belonging for all students, with a special focus on first-year experiences, international students, transitions, onboarding, and support for LSES and underrepresented groups, along with community-building activities. By improving student experiences and success throughout their academic journey, you will make a lasting impact on the lives of our diverse student body.
Reporting to the Lead, Student Engagement you will oversee a team of 3.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Provide high level advice and support to the Lead, Student Engagement on the operational functions of onboarding and transition programs and initiatives.
- Manage the design and implementation of a best-practice program of transition, development and engagement initiatives, as agreed with the Lead, Student Engagement, to offer accessible and meaningful engagement opportunities that enhance a sense of belonging and connection throughout the student lifecycle.
- Ensure programs and initiatives are age and culturally appropriate, and recognise the intersectionality of student lived experiences, so that programs and initiatives are accessible and meaningful to diverse international and domestic student communities.
- Build strong partnerships and collaborative relationships with students, UNSW staff and identified external stakeholders, leveraging partner expertise where appropriate, to ensure seamless and comprehensive engagement activities that deliver on UNSW objectives
About You:
You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification with substantial relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training and experience working with young and diverse people alongside:
- Sound understanding of the lived experiences of students from diverse backgrounds, both domestic and international.
- Demonstrated experience and creativity in designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating innovative programs, activities, resources and/or services that create a sense of community and positively impact student development.
- Demonstrated success and experience in managing staff to develop and foster teamwork, and to ensure a client focused approach and the achievement of shared goals.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing and utilising evaluation frameworks and mechanisms, to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, initiatives and activities.
- Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills, with the experience in developing presentations and project reports.
- Success working in a multi-stakeholder environment, developing strategic networks and working relationships with people and organisations within and external to the university, including senior professional stakeholders and diverse students.
- Outstanding organisational skills including the ability to deliver across multiple projects/ initiatives simultaneously and provide leadership in a complex and high-volume work environment.
- High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative professional relationships with staff at all levels, and internal and external stakeholders.
