School/College/Division Description:

The Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position. This is a 9-month instructional academic staff position with the possibility of additional paid teaching opportunities over the summer. The position will be on a yearly renewable contract, and its salary range is $30,355 - $46,555 with full benefits. This is a probationary academic staff position with potential for indefinite status in the sixth year. The successful applicant will be able to teach various undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Political Science, Introduction to Comparative Politics, and upper-level courses in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics. The standard teaching load will be four classes per semester [There is a maximum of three unique course preparations per semester]. It is expected that the successful candidate will start in Fall 2026.

Job Description:

The successful applicant will be able to teach various undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Political Science, Introduction to Comparative Politics, and upper-level courses in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics. The standard teaching load will be four classes per semester [There is a maximum of three unique course preparations per semester].

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance

Compensation:

$30,355 - $46,555 (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience)

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science or a related discipline at the time of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in Political Science courses.
  • Experience of teaching in various formats, including in-person and online instruction.
  • Ability to advise undergraduate students, such as student organization activities, mentoring, independent studies, student research and student advising (broadly conceived).
