Teaching Lab Assistant in Biotechnology (Student Worker)
Position Overview
The Teaching Assistant for Biotechnology supports both the class instructor and students in BI 114 Molecular Biology course in 2026 spring semester. This course meets on Friday afternoons at the Emmanuel College labs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Education Support: Helping students during lab periods by explaining concepts, procedures, and guiding them in laboratory techniques.
- Instructional Assistance: Providing support to the lab instructor in demonstrating techniques and concepts related to the CURE curriculum.
- Lab Preparation and Operation: Assisting lab managers with preparations, including aliquoting materials, setting up equipment for demonstrations, and ensuring all necessary materials are present at the beginning of each lab.
- Safety and Compliance: Watching for issues in laboratory safety and notifying the instructor and ensuring all students follow proper safety protocols.
- Material Management: Ensuring lab materials are being handled and stored properly, which includes general tidying of the lab space during and after lab periods.
- Mentorship and Skill Development: Solidifying one's own understanding of biology, honing lab skills, and gaining experience as a peer mentor.
- Record Keeping: May involve maintaining records related to lab attendance or student progress, and assisting with data entry as needed.
- Complete and submit weekly timesheets to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in the Biotechnology Program at FC Tech,
- Must have successfully completed BI 114
