Why Your Role Matters
The Team Leader, Credit & RPL is responsible for overseeing the assessment and coordination of credit transfer, advance standing and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for prospective and newly admitted students. The role provides specialist advice, ensures the integrity and consistency of credit assessments, and supports the implementation of institutional credit policy and articulation agreements.
As a senior member of the Prior Learning Assessment team within Admissions, this role also contributes to the development of business processes, staff capability, and quality assurance practices to support timely and accurate credit outcomes prior to student enrolment.
The role reports to the Prior Learning Assessment Manager and manages a small team of Admissions Officers.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of a team, including staff rostering, service delivery, and the recruitment, training, supervision, and development of staff
- Lead the assessment of complex or escalated credit transfer, advance standing and RPL applications
- Provide expert advice and guidance to applicants, academic staff, admissions officers, and other internal stakeholders regarding credit, advanced standing, and prior learning recognition
- Manage the implementation and maintenance of the credit precedent database
- Coordinate credit processing workflows
- Provide insight and analysis of customer trends and process improvement opportunities
- Compile and present detailed reports on data and metrics to inform operational efficiency, strategic planning, contribute to audits, and support compliance with TEQSA and other regulatory standards
- Contribute to and support the delivery of student services strategy, through continuous business improvement projects, initiatives and other ad hoc programs as required
- Contribute to the design, documentation, and review of credit-related procedures, decision-making frameworks, and templates to streamline processes and reduce administrative burden
Who You Are
You bring proven leadership experience, strong communication and organisational skills, and alignment with UNSW's values. You will also bring:
- Extensive experience assessing complex and escalated applications for credit transfer, advanced standing and RPL
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service, with a positive, flexible and adaptable approach to varied tasks and changing priorities
- Extensive experience in higher education student services and administration, including the effective use of complex student management and data reporting systems
- Knowledge of university program structures is desirable
- A high level of initiative and proven ability to apply expertise, resolve complex and sensitive issues, and develop practical solutions
- Proven experience leading and developing a team
- Ability to improve customer service by identifying critical activities, redesigning processes, and setting short- and long-term priorities for continuous improvement
Candidates will need to have valid working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship. The role is hybrid – Monday to Friday. This a fixed term role approved until July 2027. There will also likely be another fixed term role becoming available in the team, with an expected start date in December 2026.
