Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is currently accepting applications for a part-time, 10-month Technical Assistant I or II in the Nursing Department Skills and Simulation Laboratories.
In addition to day time hours, this 22.5 hours per week position will require flexibility in hours to accommodate evening classes two to three (2-3) times per week and approximately three to five (3-5) weekend days each semester; this requirement may vary with additional evening/weekend hours semester to semester, depending on needs. In addition to during the semester, this position provides assistance with ensuring the laboratory and simulation spaces are prepared prior to the start of the semester, and cleaned up at the end of each semester. The part-time Technical Assistant is not responsible for primary instructional assignments, but may work in an area where instruction is occurring.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assists the staff and faculty as needed prior to, during, and after lab and simulation activities.
- Set up, assistance during labs/simulation activities, and clean-up of Skills and Simulation Laboratories (e.g. supplies, equipment) after scheduled sessions.
- Supports the operation of simulation equipment during scheduled sessions and shuts down and stores appropriately after use.
- Ensures working order of laboratory equipment and simulation mannikins, including assisting with keeping maintenance records.
- Assists with maintaining accurate inventory of supplies and equipment, and keeping a replacement schedule for equipment, including mannikins.
- Assists with the preparation of laboratory and simulation spaces prior to the start of each semester and with clean up at the end of each semester.
- Provides support to other laboratory and simulation staff/faculty as directed.
Requirements:
To be considered for the Technical Assistant I position, an appropriate associates degree or its equivalent (a combination of post-secondary education and related work experience) is required.
To be considered for the Technical Assistant II position, an associates degree in a related field is required for this position.
- This position requires a working knowledge of health care procedures and equipment. Knowledge of simulation equipment and mannikins is highly desired.
- The Technical Assistant IIA works closely with the Department Chair, Faculty, the Clinical Nursing Skills Instructional Specialist, the Full-Time Technical Assistant, and students in the skills and simulation laboratory setting. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is required.

Additional Information:
The hourly rate for the Technical Assistant I position is $26.75.
The hourly rate for the Technical Assistant II position is $29.10.
