Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, JASANOFF LAB, Biological Engineering, to assist lab researchers with a variety of experiments and duties related to studies of neural function in animals. Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to rodent handling, performing surgery and behavioral experiments, performing data acquisition and analysis, performing prep work for experiments, and following institutional protocols for experimental procedures and MIT environmental health and safety regulations. The individual will be responsible for ordering animals, handling and logging controlled substances (sometimes to be used in behavioral studies), assisting with animal protocol work, and acting as a liaison to the Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) in the building.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or biomedical engineering; a minimum of two years of specialized laboratory experience (which may include experience working as an undergraduate student); experience with behavioral experimentation or animal surgery; familiarity with data analysis approaches, especially related to neuroscience experiments; and ability to learn and implement project-specific research protocols and work collaboratively, under supervision, with other lab members.

PREFERRED: Interest or experience in systems neuroscience research; experience with animal surgery; experience with imaging and immunohistochemical techniques; knowledge of image analysis and programming; experience with laboratory animal handling; proficiency with MATLAB programming or similar.

The position may require occasional nights and weekends as dictated by experiments. No travel is required.
