Technician A Electronic

Posting Description

TECHNICIAN A ELECTRONIC, Haystack Observatory, will support all phases of technical development, implementation, assembly, operations, repair, and maintenance of scientific instrumentation used for studies of the space environment. Systems will include sensitive radio and radar receivers (UHF, HF, and meteor radar), highly integrated electronics, deployable sensor platforms, instrument control systems, computers, data networks, and high-power microwave transmitters. Maintenance and installation activities involving antenna systems may occasionally involve assisting in mechanical work and tower climbing. Training in industrial tower climbing, ESD and clean room procedures, and electrical, RF, and high voltage safety will be provided.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Graduation from a two-year day technical school, related military training, or its equivalent and a minimum of two years of applicable experience or equivalent technical training in electronics (e.g. electronics technician, radio technology, aircraft electronics, satellite or radar systems); experience integrating and repairing electronic equipment; basic skills such as soldering, structured wiring, electronic debugging, and use of technical instrumentation (e.g. such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and computer-based instrumentation); be comfortable working with computer systems in a variety of configurations (Windows, Linux, embedded computers); and demonstrated the ability to work effectively with a small team to diagnose and repair sub-system and system level problems. PREFERRED: Experience with electronics testing and debug for radio, radar, communications systems, or satellite electronics and experience operating or repairing radar and radio systems or a strong interest in amateur radio.

Must be willing to support instrument operations on overtime shifts and occasional travel to field sites. May also be required to cover a different shift if sustained operations coverage is needed. There may also be occasions when maintenance and operational responsibilities require working off-hours or holidays.

The applicant must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers.

The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
