Position Summary

The incumbent will work in a busy Histology Laboratory in Anatomic Pathology. The following duties and responsibilities will be assigned to this individual: pick up cassettes from gross room while reconciling a processing log to ensure all cassettes are accounted for; loading and unloading tissues processors; operate and perform general maintenance on laboratory equipment including the tissue processors, cover slipper, and chemical recycler; triage routine and non-routine daily histology work, matching working drafts to related slides and requisitions; prepare simple chemical solutions and reagents in accordance to protocols. This position requires some heavy lifting and inventory of supplies. Other related duties pertaining to the proper functioning of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• 40% - Triage, organize slides, requisitions, and working drafts. Slide distribution.
• 30% - Cassette pick up, reconciliation of processing log. Loading and unloading of tissue processors.
• 10% - Operate and perform general maintenance on laboratory equipment.
• 10% - Inventory of supplies.
• 5% - Prepare simple chemicals
• 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Copath experience preferred.

Other Requirements

• Ability to work independently and accurately a must due to the nature of the work and consequences of incorrect data entry.
• Excellent communication skills a must.
• Must be able to lift at least 25lbs and be available to work evenings.
