Technician B

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Technician B (Technical Grade 4) for the Columbia University Medical Center Oncology Precision Therapeutics and Imaging Core (OPTIC) at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center.  The Technician will work under the guidance of the OPTIC Manager.  The successful applicant will play a key role in preclinical projects to assess drug efficacy using in vitro and in vivo tumor models. Subject to business needs, we may support flexible and hybrid work arrangements. Options will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

• Perform procedures with rodents including drug administration, tissue sampling, measurements, etc. (30%)
• Perform surgical procedures on rodents including biopsies and tumor implantations. (10%)
• Assist with colony management. (10%)
• Perform small animal imaging procedures using optical, ultrasound, micro CT, and MRI instruments (training provided). (20%)
• Perform data analyses. (20%)
• Administrative responsibilities regarding study organization, mouse protocols, procedural documentation, database development, etc. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of pharmacology, animal physiology, and/or animal behavior
• Experience with tissue and blood sampling techniques for small animals
• Experience with rodent injections and other procedures such as I.V. administration
• Knowledge of small animal surgery and anesthesia
• Experience with small animal imaging
