Position Description

The Technology Strategist role spans the boundaries between OU Information Technology and the customer. Technology Strategists are part of an agile team reporting to a Senior Technology Strategist and hold primary responsibility for delivering IT services, managing administrative/academic relationships, and crafting technology strategies for their customers. They cultivate a deep understanding of their customers' unique missions, cultures, goals and needs, as well as advise on appropriate technology solutions, strategies, services and resources. These exciting positions will support Senior Technology Strategists and OU IT Leadership in shaping and delivering the future of technology services at the University of Oklahoma, which will include the One University digital initiative, cutting edge learning technologies, data management, Shared Services, analytics, cloud services, community experience, and more. Applicants should have a unique blend of technology knowledge, communication skills, and business acumen to succeed in this highly visible position.

This Technology Strategist role will be dedicated to the College of Education (COE) and will serve as a member of the Mission Support team by playing a pivotal role in supporting the College.

Duties

  • Responsible for advising and developing relevant and sustainable technology solutions, strategies, and resources that benefit the campus community.
  • Plans for future technology needs.
  • Advises customers on appropriate IT services from the OU IT service catalog, Ensures delivery of IT Services per applicable agreements and monitors customer satisfaction.
  • Provides business analysis to customers by identifying business needs and determining appropriate solutions.
  • Oversees technical support for customers in coordination with the Services Team.
  • Engages appropriate resources within IT including applications, infrastructure, services, projects, and business strategy teams to meet customer expectations and needs.
  • Negotiates priority for customer projects and service provision and advocates for technology needs, initiatives, and projects on behalf of assigned customers.
  • Provides management of assets and services.
  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders such as vice-presidents, deans, directors, financial officers, development officers, and strategic faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for IT related issues and as an escalation point to resolve customer issues and complaints.
  • Helps OU IT staff coordinate with assigned area for effective planning of projects, upgrades, releases, etc., and effective resolution of unplanned issues.
  • Collaborates with other Technology Strategists to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
  • Purchasing technology responsibility on behalf of the department using university-owned processes and solutions (P-card, marketplace, etc.)

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor Degree, AND:

  • 36 months experience in IT, Business, Customer Relationship Management, or related field.

Equivalent/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 84 months experience

Skills:

  • Proven record of delivering exceptional customer service and building relationships with customers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to understand and communicate a complex service catalog to campus customers
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to manage priority of tasks and projects
  • Proven performance delivering contract-based service to customers
  • Experience in a technology organization and/or basic knowledge of enterprise technologies like network, storage, identity management, cloud services, desktop solutions, etc.
  • Project management, business analysis, conflict resolution, and other Resource Management skills

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, feel, touch, and communicate effectively.
  • Occasional heavy lifting.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Possesses a diverse technical background to manage the wide breadth of technology.

Supervision: Up to 5 staff members - Technology Support Analyst and Intermediate Technology Support Specialist
