Job Description Summary
Dr. Beth Pineles is seeking a student researcher to join a multidisciplinary study examining how healthcare providers communicate about obesity with pregnant patients. This research aims to identify effective, psychologically informed communication strategies that improve prenatal care experiences and outcomes. The selected candidate will play a central role in study design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design and implementation of research protocols
- Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of psychology and obesity research experts
- Conduct literature reviews on obesity communication in clinical settings
- Collect and analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data
- Assist with IRB submissions and ensure compliance with ethical research standards
- Prepare findings for presentation and publication
Position contingent upon continued funding
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a psychology graduate program (master's or doctoral level)
- Coursework or training in research methodology
- Knowledge of health behavior, patient communication, or clinical psychology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with human subjects research and IRB processes
- Familiarity with obesity research, prenatal health, or health communication literature
- Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis
- Established relationships with faculty or researchers in relevant fields
