About Accelerate Pre-College Programs

Northeastern University's Accelerate Pre-College Programs offer talented high school students immersive two-week summer residential experiences on Northeastern's global campuses in Boston, Oakland, New York, and London. Through rigorous academics, experiential learning, and dynamic social programming, Accelerate Pre-College Programs give participants a genuine taste of undergraduate life at Northeastern while building skills that give them an edge in their academic journey and creating connections with other students from all over the world.

Position Summary

We're seeking two Student Life Managers to lead our summer residential programs in Boston, MA and Oakland, CA and create an exceptional experience for pre-college students. In this high-impact role, you'll oversee teams of approximately 15 Student Life Ambassadors (current Northeastern undergraduate students), collaboratively manage all aspects of student life programming, and ensure a safe, engaging environment for participants across both our Oakland and Boston programs. This is an intensive, rewarding leadership opportunity for someone passionate about student development and residential programming. To effectively attend to student needs, Student Life Managers will live in a residence hall. Housing is provided July 6 - August 8. Travel expense reimbursement available for transportation between Boston and Oakland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Leadership & Management

  • Supervise and mentor teams of approximately 15 Student Life Ambassadors (SLAs) across Oakland and Boston programs
  • Support staff training and provide ongoing coaching to SLAs
  • Create staff schedules and delegate responsibilities to ensure seamless program operations
  • Foster a collaborative, student-centered team culture

Program Operations

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute daily student life programming and special events
  • Collaborate with campus partners to deliver activities, workshops, and social experiences
  • Ensure program spaces, equipment, and resources are prepared and maintained

Student Support & Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with participants and create an inclusive community
  • Provide responsive, professional support to students and families as needed
  • Address student conduct matters with fairness and discretion, escalating issues appropriately
  • Serve as a visible, approachable presence throughout the residential experience
  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Northeastern's standards

Safety & Risk Management

  • Maintain a safe residential environment and enforce program policies
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents following established protocols
  • Document incidents and communicate with relevant stakeholders
  • Support health and wellness initiatives for participants

Program Timeline & Structure

This is a temporary position from July 6 - August 14, 2026, however, this may require additional hours working remotely for planning and orientation in the weeks leading up to arriving on campus.

  • July 6 - 10: In-person training and program set-up on the Boston campus
  • July 12 - 24: Managing student life programs and pastoral care of participants for Boston's Pre-College Program, Session 1
  • July 26 - August 7: Managing student life programs and pastoral care of participants for Boston's Pre-College Program, Session 2
  • August 8: move-out of Boston complimentary housing
  • August 10 - 14 (Remote): Virtual summer debrief

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in higher education, residence life, summer camps, teaching, counseling, or student affairs
  • Experience managing events or programs
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and/or supervising direct reports
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis management
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Current certification or openness to be trained in First Aid & CPR as well as Mental Health First Aid
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Student-centered approach with a strong sense of responsibility for student success and wellbeing
  • Full availability from July 6 - August 7, 2026 is required
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Flexibility to travel between Oakland and Boston campuses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in, or graduate of, a graduate program in a relevant discipline: Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Counseling, Secondary Education, or related field
  • Experience counseling students and managing mental health crises
  • Experience with pre-college or high school-aged populations
  • Knowledge of student development theory and restorative practices
  • Familiarity with Northeastern University
