Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Socio-Cultural Anthropology
Job Details
Haverford College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Socio-Cultural Anthropology.
Haverford College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Socio-Cultural Anthropology at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in the Fall of 2026. The successful candidate is expected to have completed a PhD in anthropology or closely related field by the time of appointment and will have a research agenda based primarily in the United States with a focus on Black feminist anthropology. We welcome applications from emergent scholars at an early stage in their career such as A.B.D., Post-Doc, or early years at the Assistant Professor level.
Applicants should demonstrate evidence of scholarly engagement with socio-cultural anthropology as well as Black feminist anthropology—through theory and methods. The successful candidate will make new contributions to Anthropology at Haverford in terms of scholarly expertise (such as, but not limited to, critical race studies, Indigenous anthropology, Latinx anthropology, feminist science and technology studies, racial capitalism, queer theory, health justice, carceral studies, disability rights, Black ecologies, Indigenous and land rights movements, material culture, and ethical questions of repatriation). Commitment to feminist, community-based, activist, or publicly oriented scholarship is preferred.
A full time teaching load is five courses a year, with senior thesis supervision often counting as a course credit. In addition to thesis advising and teaching elective courses of their own design and choosing, the successful candidate will teach at least one core course a year (including Introduction to Anthropology, History and theory of Anthropology and Senior Seminar). Interdisciplinary engagement and contributions to interdisciplinary programs (particularly Gender and Sexuality Studies, Health Studies, Peace, Justice and Human Rights, or African and Africana Studies) is desirable.
Applicants should submit the following via Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/173861):
- A cover letter
- A curriculum vitae
- A research statement
- A teaching statement that addresses experience and effectiveness, especially with reference to teaching a diverse student body
- A writing sample up to 25 pages
- The names and contact information of three recommenders. Confidential letters of recommendation will be solicited for candidates invited to a Zoom interview.
All application materials must be submitted by the end of the day on October 24, 2025 via Interfolio in order to receive consideration.
Questions about the application process should be directed to hc-anthrosearch@haverford.edu. For technical questions about Interfolio, please contact Interfolio directly at 1-877-997-8807 or help@interfolio.com.
