Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor
The Department of Cell Biology and Genetics (CBGN) at Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
NARESH K. VASHISHT COLLEGE OF MEDICINE (https://medicine.tamu.edu): More than 500 faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and staff are engaged in a variety of research fields, from the study of basic cellular processes to that of complex diseases. We use human cell culture systems and several model systems—including mice, insects, yeast and microbes—for experimental investigations. Benchwork is complemented by state-of-the-art imaging capabilities, high-throughput screening/analysis tools, bioinformatic resources and molecular modeling approaches. The research is organized mostly around six broadly defined areas and several centers and institutes. Faculty and research staff have many advanced core facilities at their disposal, both in Bryan-College Station campus and at the Institute of Biosciences and Technology in Houston, Texas.
RESEARCH IN THE CBGN (https://medicine.tamu.edu/departments/cbgn): Research in the Cell Biology and Genetics Department spans a wide range of biological processes and chronic diseases. Our well-funded nationally recognized research programs advance the mechanistic understanding of the basic cellular biology (transcription, translation, and protein trafficking), complex regulatory pathways (signal transduction, gene regulation, epigenetics, development, and differentiation), and diseases (Alzheimer’s Disease, autoimmune diseases, cancers, fungal infection, and metabolic diseases). Our researchers are also actively developing novel therapeutics for hard-to-treat chronic illnesses and fungal infections. CBGN researchers employ state-of-the-art biological and molecular technologies, along with advanced genetic approaches, to make breakthrough discoveries. Faculty, students and postdoctoral scientists form a collaborative community pushing the frontiers of molecular and cellular discovery to advance our understanding of biology and diseases and to translate the gained knowledge to drug discovery and development.
Candidates: Candidates pursuing internationally recognized research in molecular imaging, metabolic diseases, cancer, fungal infection, neurodegenerative diseases, regenerative medicine or AI-driven health research are encouraged to apply. The use of multidisciplinary approaches and research topics that complement those of existing research groups is an asset.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an innovative and competitive research program at the national and international levels and to secure external funding to support their research. Duties also include teaching fundamental biomedical science courses at the Master’s and Doctoral levels, supervision of graduate students, and participation in departmental and college-level committee activities.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field and have a strong record of research accomplishments. Postdoctoral experience is required. A demonstrated ability to successfully obtain competitive research funding will be advantageous.
The expected start date is June-August 2026. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a combined 3-page personal statement with research interests and teaching philosophy, and the contact information for at least 3 references.
