Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, College of Science and Engineering, Kanazawa University, is seeking applicants who specialize in Mechanics of Materials or Solid Mechanics, with the ability to actively promote research in computational mechanics through the application of mathematical modeling and numerical analysis. After appointment, the successful candidate will join the Advanced Materials Group in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and collaborate with faculty members in the Computational Mechanics of Materials Laboratory.

Work content and job description
The candidate is expected to investigate the relationships between material microstructures and mechanical properties through mathematical analysis and simulation techniques (e.g., first-principles calculations, molecular dynamics, discrete dislocation dynamics, phase-field methods, and crystal plasticity finite element methods), and to pursue research aimed at establishing a new mechanics framework that enables value creation in next-generation materials.

Subject responsible for
1) Undergraduate course: Subjects related to Mechanical Engineering such as Mechanics of Materials, Engineering Design and Drawing, Vibration Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Seminar on Mechanical Engineering and General Education.
2) Graduate course: Subjects related to the above research field.
During the tenure-track period, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching approximately one to two courses. In addition, the candidate may be required to teach classes in English.

Contract period description: TT Assistant Professor: Full time, non-tenured (In principle 5 years). Based on the result of intramural examination on academic achievement in research and education, he/she may have opportunity for the promotion to tenure associate professorship or the appointment of tenure assistant professor, after the expiration of one’s term of office. If an extension of the tenure-track period (up to a maximum of three years) is approved as part of the tenure review, a subsequent evaluation will be conducted in the final year of the extended period.
