Tenure Track Associate or Full Professor - Vision Research

Description

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the tenure track. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching residents and fellows.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include research to complement and expand the world-leading retinal gene therapy program already well established at the Center for Hereditary Retinal Degenerations within the Department. Preferred research focus of the applicant is patient-centered translational sciences in inherited retinal diseases and their treatments.

We especially encourage mid-career applicants studying diverse areas of vision science including ocular genetics, retinal imaging, psychophysics, regenerative medicine, genome engineering, neuroscience, or artificial intelligence directly targeting human conditions. This position is not intended for physicians interested in clinical practice.

Department of Ophthalmology is in a period of expansion with 12 clinician-educators, 2 basic/translational scientists, and 2 clinician-scientists hired in the last 2 years. The department is poised for success with a strong clinical program helping to support our robust clinical research program which already saw 109 clinical trials being conducted this past year. The University of Pennsylvania has a vibrant and highly collaborative vision research commmunitycomprised of 62 investigators supported by outstanding core facilities. The Greater Philadelphia region is home to dozens of cell and gene therapy companies and countless research labs.

Depending on rank, applicants should either be on a trajectory to becoming internationally renowned with first authorship on high-quality original research publications or be investigators with evidence of sustained external/federal research funding and an exceptional record of research achievement and teaching.
