Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Geological Engineering (Geomaterials)

Position Description

The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering is seeking individuals with a strong research expertise in the field of geomaterials and aggregate technology, as well as relevant teaching experience. The selected candidate will be expected to teach in the department’s programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, develop a funded and innovative research program that complements the strengths of our programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Conducting research and publishing in areas related to the position;
  • Participating in the pedagogical and administrative activities of the department and Faculty;
  • Engaging in external academic activities that contribute to the visibility of the Faculty and University.

Selection Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in geological engineering or a related engineering field, and a Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to the research area targeted by this position, or be about to obtain a Ph.D. (thesis submitted);
  • Relevant scientific training and experience in relation to the identified field;
  • Demonstration of the ability to conduct university-level research;
  • Potential to develop an autonomous and original research program in the identified field;
  • Demonstration of, or potential ability, to teach at all academic levels, supervise graduate students, and engage in pedagogical innovation;
  • Demonstration of potential or commitment to community service;
  • As Université Laval is a French-language institution, the selected candidate must be able to teach effectively in French or commit to being able to do so within a maximum of three years;
  • Be a registered member of a Canadian professional engineering association or be able to become one within a maximum of three years;
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in science and engineering.

Conditions

Appointment and Compensation

Salary will be determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement in effect at the time of hiring.

Additional Information

The Department of Geology and Geological Engineering consists of a team of 13 professors teaching approximately 150 undergraduate students and supervising over 80 graduate students. Research in the department is organized around four main thematics: geomaterials, mineral resources, natural hazard analysis, and hydrogeology.
