DTU Tenure Track Researcher in Anaerobic Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering
The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (DTU Chemical Engineering) invites applications for a position as Tenure Track Researcher in anaerobic biotechnology and bioprocess engineering.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in anaerobic digestion process, fermentation, syngas and dark fermentation, process control, and biogas upgrading. The position will strengthen our department’s efforts in developing sustainable bioprocesses for energy and resource recovery, bio-based products, and carbon valorisation.
You will become part of an international, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, working with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark and abroad.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary tasks will be to:
- Conduct and supervise research in anaerobic digestion, fermentation technologies, and process intensification.
- Develop innovative bioprocesses for bioenergy, carbon capture and utilization, and waste/biomass valorisation.
- Contribute to advancing process control, modelling and monitoring of microbial processes.
- Deliver scientific excellence through high-impact publications, dissemination and outreach.
- Teach and develop courses at BSc and MSc levels in bioprocess engineering.
- Supervise student projects (BSc, MSc, PhD).
- Attraction competitive external funding nationally and internationally.
- Build and strengthen collaborations with academia, industry, and international consortia.
Your qualifications should include:
- PhD degree in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related disciplines.
- Strong research profile in anaerobic biotechnology, fermentation, syngas/CO2 utilization, or related fields.
- Experience with process modelling, monitoring, and control.
- Documented experience with analytical methods and wet-lab experimentation.
- University-level teaching and supervision experience.
- Track record of scientific publications in high-quality journals.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Fluency in English.
You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
Starting date is according to mutual agreement. The position is a full-time position.
