Job Summary

The Transfer Student Coordinator reports to the Senior Director of the Center for Academic Success and is funded by a federal Strengthening Institutions Title III grant program. The coordinator collaborates with the Division of Enrollment, Registrar's Office, and Student Life to work with students throughout the admission cycle, including academic advising, credit evaluation, communication of affordability opportunities, and activities that build students' sense of belonging. The coordinator will lead the enhancement of transfer student support, such as orientation and transfer pathways. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FSLA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist transfer students in responding to academic and financial issues (e.g., financial holds, financial aid appeals).
  • Coordinate institutional efforts to educate faculty and students on transfer processes and resources.
  • Design a "Fast-Track" orientation specifically for transfers that avoids repeating freshman-level information and focuses on credit utility and graduation timelines.
  • Offer ongoing support services for transfer students through one-on-one meetings, highly responsive communications, and connections to other university offices.
  • Develop and offer monthly programming to support the academic, co-curricular, and social experiences of transfer students.
  • Advocate for transfer students, identify bureaucratic obstacles, and recommend necessary process improvements.
  • Work with the Registrar's Office to assist students in timely credit evaluation, monitor completion of degree requirements, and ensure that all policies, procedures, and agreements are documented and available
  • Partner with department heads and Registrar's Office to approve new transfer course equivalencies; update and maintain the transfer course equivalency database.
  • Collaborate with the Division of Enrollment and Admission to maintain working relationships with partner transfer institutions, recruit students, and develop agreements.
  • Partner with the Director of Admissions and Visit Coordinator to provide personalized experience for prospective transfer students
  • Collaborate and maintain successful partnerships with faculty and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
A bachelor's degree in a field related to recruitment or academic support services.

Experience
A minimum of two years of experience working in a college setting with strong organizational skills, oral, and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of current issues and emerging trends relevant to transfer students. Knowledge about financial aid and retention issues for students for underserved and underrepresented populations. Ability to manage multiple tasks; skills in written and verbal communication, including formal presentation to groups, demonstrations to individual faculty and staff, and directing student clients; ability to maintain confidentiality and understand related regulations (e.g., FERPA); and capable of maintaining attention to detail and professional interactions. Knowledge of university management systems, online student success software, and assistive technology.

Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, ability to talk and to hear instruction, occasional manual dexterity, and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending, and the ability to occasionally lift 10 pounds. Working conditions are indoors.
